LOS ANGELES (Agencies): A 21-year-old individual has been apprehended in connection with the demise of an 18-year-old college student. Over the weekend, Josiah Malachi Kilman was discovered “unresponsive” in his dorm room at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky, as indicated by a press release from the Campbellsville Police Department.
Following the distressing incident, Kilman was transferred to Taylor Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Subsequently, his body underwent an autopsy at the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office, with an official cause of death still pending confirmation.
Later on the same day, a press release revealed that an arrest warrant had been issued for Campbellsville University student Charles E. Escalera in connection with Kilman’s death. Escalera, last seen in the parking lot of a Lowe’s in the town, prompted the university to initiate a lockdown, directing all students to “shelter in place.” The university later conveyed on X (formerly Twitter) that Escalera had been “arrested by police.”
Kentucky State Police took Escalera into custody after responding to a report of a “suspicious male inside a barn,” leading to his subsequent arrest on suspicion of murder. Currently held at the Taylor County Detention Center, it remains unclear whether he has legal representation available for comment.
In a statement, Campbellsville University President Dr Joseph Hopkins expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family. We have lost a student, and our hearts are broken. During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern.” The statement affirmed ongoing collaboration with local law enforcement to ensure the safety and support of students and the community.
